The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Infectious Disease, Children's Hospital Immunodeficiency Program (CHIP) has an opening for two full-time University Staff (unclassified) Clinical Research Nurse positions.

Nature of Work:

Children’s Hospital Immunodeficiency Program (CHIP) provides comprehensive health care integrated with research study participation to children, adolescents, young adults, and pregnant women living with or affected by HIV. CHIP is a study site for multi-center clinical trials from the International Maternal Pediatric International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent Aids Clinical Trial Network (IMPAACT), the Pediatric AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS) the Covid Vaccine Trials Network (CO-VTN) and HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN)

The Clinical Research Nurse will conduct clinical research coordination, care, and recruitment for multi-center research studies conducted with in the department. This includes working on COVID-19 vaccine trials, HIV treatment, HIV prevention trials and other vaccine trials.

Examples of Work Performed:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Patient Care (50%)

  • Perform nursing research procedures as described in protocol

  • Perform Clinical Exams

  • Perform Medical Histories

  • Collect specimens from various sources

  • Administer medication and study product

  • Place protocol orders

  • Provide health and study education

  • Perform home nursing care visits as needed

  • Perform telehealth/ remote visits.

  • Provide evaluation of lab results

  • Evaluate the consistency of medical data within scope of practice

Research Coordination (30%)

  • Collaborate with PI and clinical team to identify and enroll eligible patients to study and implement research studies.

  • Manage protocol changes as new information is released from sponsors, using nursing knowledge and skills.

  • Complete research documentation, abstract data from patient charts utilizing medical records, lab guidelines, protocol information and other resources for accurate completion and submission of research records.

  • Follow up phone calls and telehealth evaluations related to research participation.

  • Coordinate and schedule research visits, study procedures and consults as required by protocol.

  • Administer and document informed consent for study participation.

  • Administer participant interviews/questionnaires.

  • Track patient participation.

  • Develop and review informed consents.

  • Work with CHIP team to identify and submit adverse event reports to study team, sponsor, and IRB within designated timeframes.

  • Problem solves as it relates to research project.

  • Develop SOPs as needed.

  • Validate quality of data elements/data editing.

  • Assist in preparation for site monitor visits.

  • Other coordination as assigned.

Research Recruitment and Retention (10%)

  • Collaborate with recruiter to recruit potential participants from the community.

  • Ensure Retention of participants on study by various means.

  • Work closely with physicians referring study patients.

  • Approach potential participants for a research study.

  • Interact in a compassionate and nonjudgmental manner with a diverse study population.

  • Provides regular reports back to the research team.

Quality Assurance (10%)

  • Organize, conduct, and maintain responsibility for QA procedures.

  • Respond to sponsor queries for research data records in requested time.

  • Validate quality of data elements/data editing.

  • Assist in preparation for site monitor visits.

  • Ensure accurate and complete informed consent process.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN)

  • Two (2) years of nursing experience

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Colorado

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)

  • Ability to interact in a compassionate and nonjudgmental manner with a diverse study population

  • Ability to work independently, within a strong team environment

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, often under time pressures

  • Attention to detail a must as well as ability to accurately prioritize workflow

  • Flexibility in schedule; able to take weekend call on a rotation with others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in clinical research coordination

  • Familiarity with multi-center trials

  • Knowledge of HIV disease and treatment

  • Knowledge of vaccine trials

  • Experience with electronic medical records

  • Excellent ability to support one another using good communication skills and implementing healthy team dynamics

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $63,622 to $85,254

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
