Providence Health & Services Healthcare Data Analyst 1 in Beaverton, Oregon


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Healthcare Data Analyst 1 to our location in Beaverton, OR.

General Summary:

The Clinical Quality Healthcare Analyst is responsible for implementing and coordinating complex and diverse analysis projects in support of financial, quality, and business needs within the Clinical Analytics Department. This work includes providing development of reports and analytic support for quality improvement initiatives; organizing and preparing HEDIS reports; responding to requests for information from current or prospective customers (HC Quality, HC Care Management, HC Health Coaching). Excellent communication skills both written and oral as well as presentation skills are required. The Clinical Quality Healthcare Analyst is called upon to present findings to health plan/ health system leadership as well as to various physician/facility provider constituencies. The position requires the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Key Relationships:

The Clinical Quality Healthcare Analyst reports to the Manager of Clinical Quality. However, the position requires interactions with the Director, Clinical Analytics; Chief Medical Officer; CEO; additional managers and key staff within the health plan and health system; and many external audiences - regulatory agencies, audit firms, employers, brokers, physicians and other providers.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  1. Organizes, prepares, and distributes clinical and operational reports utilizing multiple data systems.

  2. Provides analytical and statistical support for clinical and operational reporting projects. This includes summarizing information into charts, tables, and figures to convey the meaning of the data to customers and decision-makers.

3.Develops and provides support for relational databases, including reporting, design, and data management.

  1. Provides analytical, programming, and statistical support for HEDIS and CMS 5-Star initiatives.

  2. Responding to data requests for information from current or prospective customers (employer groups, their consultants, or brokers)

  3. Compiling utilization and quality profiles of provider performance (using advanced statistical analysis techniques and

tools) and using advanced relational database techniques and using advanced programming techniques.

  1. Present and defend findings to health plan/health system leadership as well as to various physician/facility provider


  1. Continues to learn and utilize programming skills, such as SQL, VB/VBA, SAS or other programming languages. Uses these skills in optimizing reports or conducting statistical analyses.

  2. Business Intelligence tools to further increase the efficiency in data mining.

Develop processes, write programs, and/or create databases using analytic tools to produce accurate and timely completion of analytic solutions.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in highly quantitative field (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Engineering/Physics, Accounting, or Computer Science), plus 3 years of experience in data analysis or;

  • High school education or equivalent, plus 5 years of experience in data analysis.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Healthcare organization/health insurance experience.
