Positions in this function research and investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data. Provides management with statistical findings and conclusions. Identifies potential areas for medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies. Provides data in support of actuarial, financial and utilization analyses.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Bridge technical expertise with business knowledge

  • Coordination - Work with OptumRx product team members to understand business processes, reporting and data needs

  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a research study from design development to completion

  • Methodology: Define, develop, and refine methodology to measure clinical and financial outcomes for OptumRx products

  • Data Retrieval: Extract data from very large legacy systems (using SQL or SAS) and join them together to provide workable data sets for analysis and problem solving

  • Data analysis: Perform detailed data analysis and testing (i.e. determine the structure, content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and data samples)

  • Documentation: Develop and maintain appropriate documentation regarding analytic approaches, metric definitions, etc.

  • Communication: Create and deliver a value story in a clear, concise, confident manner

  • Support the ongoing development of the Analytics and Reporting team capabilities by sharing innovative approaches and solutions with the broader team

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's or doctoral degree in Health Services Research (HSR), Economics, Health Economics, Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Pharmacy, Nursing, PharmD

  • 5+ years of analytic experience in the pharmaceutical industry, health economics or health outcomes research

  • 5+ years working with relational databases including pharmacy or medical claims

  • Experienced using data and research to formulate logical business recommendations

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

  • Experience synthesizing and connecting large amounts of data identifying trends and opportunities

  • Advanced proficiency working with MS-SQL, SAS

  • Ability to analyze large data sets and determine variable correlations, perform complex statistical analysis (i.e. propensity matched difference in difference), and perform data manipulations to deliver key insights

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PBM experience

  • Exposure to Power Bi or Tableau

  • Able to balance strategic thinking with the urgency to drive work forward

  • Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects and capacity to foster a healthy teamwork environment

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $79,700 to $142,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
