We need a CLS - Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Per Diem) at local client facility.
Positions will be filled ASAP.
Shift Details/Expected Working Days and Hours: 830am-5pm/M-F
Under direct supervision of the Section Leader, the clinical Laboratory Scientist performs clinical laboratory testing and assists in promoting a quality of service based on accuracy and timeliness in reporting results. Under general supervision the Clinical Laboratory Scientists are responsible for assisting the department manager in the effective operation of the laboratory through the coordination of all activities in their respective responsibilities.
Follows established procedures to perform routine and STAT clinical laboratory testing.
Follows established quality control procedures for all tests including initiation of remedial action in out of-control situations.
Keeps abreast of reference and critical values for neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients so that the appropriate physician notification takes place in the event of the recovery of critical values related to specific age groups.
Performs all Laboratory Information system (LIS) functions necessary to complete patient testing and specimen processing.
Participates in continuing education programs and consults current technical literature to keep abreast of changes in the field.
Promotes good public relations through productive and professional interaction with patients, physicians, and other hospital staff.
Assist in maintaining reagents and supplies inventories.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Section Leader, Laboratory Supervisor, and the Manager, Laboratory.
Participates in proficiency testing events when requested to do so by the Section Leader.

Knowledge of laboratory testing, laboratory equipment and quality control procedures. This knowledge shall include all current laboratory tests commonly ordered by providers in general practice.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical laboratory work and the use and care of laboratory equipment; preparation, mounting and staining of specimens; laboratory apparatus, serological, bacteriological, and biochemical tests and analyses.
Skill in preparing specimens, running standards and calibrating analyzers following standard Quality Assurance protocols, reading tests and recognizing the normal and abnormal, setting up laboratory apparatus, and making quick and accurate serological, bacteriological, and biochemical tests and analyses.
Familiarity with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CUA) and California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 17, Division 1, Chapter 2, Subchapter 1, Group 2, concerning the operation of a clinical laboratory.
Knowledge of current phlebotomy procedures. Individual may be required to oversee or perform blood draws (phlebotomy) and perform blood processing functions, such as freezing specimens and separating plasma.
Process test results for providers and clinics.
Assist in laboratory inventory control.
Act as lead for laboratory technicians and support staff as needed and when requested.
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of laboratory medicine.
Comply with universal safety precautions, maintain a safe work environment, including safe use of equipment contained therein, and maintain Institution security measures.
Document and maintain medical records in accordance with Institution/Facility policies and procedures.
Ability to maintain professional working relationship with Institution providers, nurses, patient/youth and Healthcare Services staff; References will be requested if called for an interview.
