Optum Operations Business Analyst - Data Analysis /Healthcare Experience Preferred in St. Petersburg, Florida

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

The Operations Business Analyst role is a key part of the Leadership team to help the Florida market provide the best care for its patients, drive operational efficiencies, implement corporate initiatives within the market and, grow the business. This role will be challenged to analyze, review, and forecast data for operational and business planning and then help to execute on those plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate commitment to superior customer service, including quality and care and concern with each and every internal and external customer.

  • Represents the Company in a professional manner, following all Company policies and procedures.

  • Uses, protects, and discloses patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

  • Analyze, review, forecast, and trend complex data.

  • Present analysis and interpretation for operational and business review and planning.

  • Support short and long term operational/strategic business activities through analysis.

  • Develop recommended business solutions through research and analysis of data and business process and implement when appropriate.

  • Assist with conducting business process assessments to identify where improvement is needed.

  • Prepare and maintain reports of key performance measures.

  • Review and analyze results to identify variances, trends, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Develop and maintain reporting infrastructure including data assets, analysis methods, financial/process modeling tools, and reporting processes.

  • Develop a library of metrics, methods, reports, results and recommendations.

  • Complete routine and complex data analysis projects, process mapping and modeling.

  • Execute special analysis projects concurrently with regularly scheduled reporting responsibilities.

  • Provide ad hoc project management.

  • Build positive relationships with key departmental heads to help effectively reach project objectives and goals.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Must have consistent, punctual and reliable attendance.

  • Ability to travel locally.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Health Administration, related field or equivalent work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Must be a self-starter with exceptional problem solving skills and the ability to resolve complex problems and implement solutions.

  • Ability to understand the business needs behind the requests and to drive results.

  • Must have a strong sense of accountability; passion for owning projects and driving them to completion

  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced, energetic, results-oriented environment.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with all levels of management and teammates.

  • Ability to develop recommendations, strategies, and tactics based on analyses.

  • Able to lead small teams and work efforts in a matrix environment.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare and medical group business areas (clinical, operations, care management, capitation) is a plus.

  • Excel power user with advanced spreadsheet management/modeling skills and the ability to easily manipulate large volumes of data, build and use advanced macros/pivot tables, etc.

  • Expert level computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, SQL.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
