We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join the Business Operations practice in our Charlotte office. As a member of CLA’s BizOps practice, you will be a member of the CLA client service team and will work directly with our clients to provide customized accounting services to support them as they manage and grow their business or organization.

The Global Services team work with fast growing companies setting up operations or expanding their business within the United States. We provide global consulting, outsource accounting, and business administration for these companies. We are seeking a staff accountant to join our team, serving a large retail client.

In this role, you will work virtually and at client locations supported and supervised by a CLA Controller. You will be responsible for a variety of accounting, financial and operational services for our clients including processing transactions, completing account reconciliations, closing accounting periods, drafting financial statements, and supporting our clients’ accounting functions.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record standard journal entries for asset, liability, revenue, and expenses by compiling and analyzing the general ledger account information
  • Maintains and balances accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies
  • Research and make correcting journal entries for account discrepancies, prepares closing journal entries, posts accrual entries, and prepares required management reporting
  • Prepare assigned portion of the monthly and annual financial statements and disclosures.
  • Consult with client and their foreign parent company on accounting and business administration needs in the United States
  • Complete bank reconciliations and merchant service statements, monthly
  • Research technical issues to discuss with manager
  • Update instructional documents as processes change.
  • Provide assistance and backup to other areas in finance and accounting
  • Assist with the preparation of audit workpapers and answer audit questions
  • Complete local business and compliance filings
  • Prepare analysis of revenue and operating expense sections, including narratives
  • Provide assistance and backup to other areas in finance and accounting
  • Record business transactions into ERP system (Cash, A/P, PPE, general journal entries, etc.)
  • Update equity roll forward monthly
  • Assist in the preparation of tax documents
  • Additional duties/ projects as assigned

Education/Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience providing accounting and financial services is preferred, exceptions can occur based on work to be performed.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field OR Associates degree in Accounting or related field plus 2 years of accounting experience OR Associates in unrelated field plus Accounting Certificate plus 2 years of accounting experience.
  • Relevant experience in the Retail Industry is preferred
  • Experience with INFOR ERP system is preferred
  • Aptitude to develop a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems, i.e. QuickBooks, Yardi, Xero, Sage.
  • Proficiency with applicable software (including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc).
  • Advance Microsoft excel skills
  • Ability to travel to client sites.
